| History of the Project
Many teenagers today have preconceived ideas and negative opinions about people who are different, especially when these differences are associated with culture, religion, race, ethnicity, and gender to name but a few. A joint effort was made by the educators of three schools in Central Connecticut to address the topic of diversity through a series of planned academic and enrichment activities during the 1998-99 school year. The year's culminating project was called the Town-to-Town C.A.R.E.-A-VANŠ. In 2001 the C.A.R.E.-A-VANŠ was retired after many miles traveled. Students and
Staff members from three suburban and urban schools participated in these year-long
activities and created the first C.A.R.E.-A-VANŠ.
On January 12th, 2000, the bus left McGee Middle School in Berlin, Connecticut for its year-long journey across the United States. See how the students from McGee, Slade and Roosevelt celebrated this event by clicking here. To find out more about how other schools are using the project to address the topic of diversity, please visit the Reports from Our Drivers section of this website.
